Genetic mutation responsible for an inherited form of Parkinson's Disease discovered
Dr. Jon Stoessl and Dr. Rob Calne, both faculty members at UBC performing research at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute contributed to the discovery of a genetic mutation responsible for an inherited form of Parkinson’s disease. This discovery, made in collaboration with researchers at the University of Tübingen and the MAYO Foundation, may provide a diagnostic for advanced detection of inherited Parkinson’s disease, and also a promising drug target to potentially address other forms of Parkinson’s disease. The three institutions licensed the patented technology to Millipore for diagnostic and drug development.
