Preventing “toxic cascades” that kill brain cells due to trauma, stroke, or disease

Dr. Max Cynader is a Professor in the Department of Neurology, and along with Dr. Yu tian Wang and Dr. Jia, founded a company, Primary Peptides. The Company will develop compounds that prevent specific pairs of proteins from interacting with one another, preventing “toxic cascades” that kill brain cells due to trauma, stroke, or disease. UBC licensed technology to the Company exclusively and aided in the subsequent sub-licensing of certain rights to a Chinese company, Yabao Pharmaceuticals, in a $40 million development agreement.
