Syncrude Canada and UBC seek to remediate water pollution

Restoring and rehabilitating water systems

Dr. Greg Lawrence is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering who investigates techniques to minimize the environmental impact of waste discharge; restoring and rehabilitating lakes and other water systems that have been polluted. Syncrude Canada has provided $600,000 in funding to Dr. Lawrence to study reclamation of man-made pit lakes used to store fluid tailings that result from oil-sands development.
