Online Invention Disclosures

Navigate to ubc.wellspringsoftware.net in the modern browser of your choice. You will see a page that looks like this:

By clicking “Login using UBC CWL Authentication” you will be directed to UBC’s Campus Wide Login page and invited to provide your credentials.

Under Tasks in the highlighted box, select New Disclosure.

This is the section where you provide a brief description of the technology and any public disclosures. Uploading files with additional information is encouraged.

In this section add the names and contact details for each researcher who made an “Inventive” contribution to the invention. Inventive contributions may include:

• Conceiving the ideas that lead to the development of the invention
• Devising the experiments that form the basis of the invention
• Recognising the significance of unexpected results
• Authoring software code or other copyrightable material

In general, the following activities are not considered “Inventive”

• Carrying out work under instruction (irrespective of the effort involved), unless innovation was needed beyond the instructions provided
• Supervising research (without being part of the conception of the invention)

This will create a list of researchers per the example below

Please provide details for all granting agencies or industry/government/non-profit partners who funded the research that led to the invention. This is useful to aid the UILO in (i) understanding any pre-existing rights that funding parties may have in the Technology and (ii) reporting commercialization activities to funding parties.

This is an information page that confirms the next steps in the process and that, per the requirements of UBC Policy LR11, the completion of this invention disclosure will require each of the named inventors to:

1. Confirm that they have read and understand the contents of the invention disclosure
2. Confirm their assignment of the technology to the University of British Columbia

A formal confirmation document will be sent to each of the inventors for signature via Docusign.
